It has come to the attention of the TCU Police Department that students studying abroad in Spain have recently reported an unsettling incident at the host housing facility. It was reported that a person, possibly a security guard, opened a student’s room door during the night. After realizing the student was in the room the person shut the door and left the area. The incident has been reported to the host organization and is being investigated. To date, we are not aware of any criminal conduct associated with this incident. The TCU Police Department encourages all students studying abroad to report suspicious incidents to TCU Study Abroad Coordinators as soon as possible and to local authorities if criminal conduct is suspected.
SAFETY TIPS
 When possible use all available locks to secure the room.
 Consider placing a chair against the door the help prevent it from being opened.
 You may also consider tying a bell on the door or some other devise to make noise if the door is opened while you are sleeping.
The campus community is highly encouraged to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious activity to local Police. Please find the local police agency number and program the number into your cellular telephone, preferably on a speed dial function, to facilitate a rapid police response. In Spain, you may also dial 112 for emergencies (Similar to 911 in the US). The best way to increase the safety and security of the campus community is to report suspicious activity before a crime can be committed.
The Study Abroad Coordinators, 817-774-0202 or 817-774-0201 and the Counseling and Mental Health Center, 817-257-7863, have resources and support services to assist any student who is a victim of a crime or traumatic event.
